Staking Claim demonstrates the ways racialization fuels settler colonialism in the islands through an interdisciplinary analysis. It argues that the racialization of Hawaiians and the indigenization of non-Hawaiians work concurrently to enable the staking of non-Hawaiian claims to HawaiĆ¢ā¬ā¢i.
Author of Staking Claim, Judy Rohrer, grew up in HawaiĆ¢ā¬ā¢i and earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of HawaiĆ¢ā¬ā¢i at MĆĀnoa. RohrerĆ¢ā¬ā¢s first book, Haoles in HawaiĆ¢ā¬ā¢i, was published in 2010 through the University of HawaiĆ¢ā¬ā¢i Press.
